I just enjoyed your photos! The stuff you describe as fungi on the photos from May 29th and June 11th (2005, both I think) are actually lichens. Lichens are built by symbiosis of a algae species and a fungi species and they can be very specific in their association, habitat, shape and so on. Mostly they reproduce asexually by building spores, which you can see as little 'balls' on them.
